Native Nigerian Preachers

The following is a list of preachers, their families, and their needs that the church of Christ at Gainesville, other congregations, or individuals currently support either through the church treasury or individual support. Many times individuals will support a native Nigerian preacher. The normal amount for a preacher and his family is $50/month. The support is collected twice each year and sent over to Nigeria through trusted channels. Preachers who are supported through this program are encouraged to send ministry goals as well as regular ministry reports.

Benson Onwuchuruba

Benson has been involved with the Gainesville missions for several years. He has been preaching and teaching with one congregation for the last 28 years. Recently, he decided to take up the work with a small congregation that he helped to start several years ago but is now struggling in the area. The area of the new church has not been touched by WBS (World Bible School) and the church is not strong in that area. Benson wants to launch the work there and help the church to grow beyond what it is now.

Benson is married with a large family. His wife is a diabetic and needs constant medical care and medicine. This is fairly costly for Benson and his family. He has asked in the past for help.

Herbert Chukwu

Herbert is a faithful Gospel preacher who works with various preachers throughout Nigeria. In fact, whenever we travel with Herbert, he usually tells us of a Gospel Meeting that he was involved with at some time. He owns a Land Rover which the church of Christ at Gainesville helped him to get, but it is old and easily broken down.

Herbert worked hard in the Pentecostal faith until he read and studied Leroy Brownlow’s Why I am a Member of the Church of Christ. When he read and studied that book, we began to realize that the truth about scripture and began to go back and preach and teach to those people who he had led to the Pentecostal church.

Herbert was asked to be the chief of the Ihe village as he was the eldest and best known man around. He declined this great honor so that he could continue to preach and teach on a full-time basis.

Amos Udo

Amos Udo preaches at a congregations in Akwa Ibom State like Atai Otoro, Ikot Oku Mfang, Ena Obong, Edem Idim Ibesit as well as remote villages in the area where the population exceeds 70,000 people. He holds a Diploma in Religious Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion/education. He is working toward his masters degree in education.

In the first part of 2006, Amos hold 15 Bible classes with 2 conversions. He helped to convert a church called the New Jerusalem church to a church of Christ in 1998 with John & Dorris Taylor. During the first part of this year, the church held four open air Gospel Meetings. Currently, that church is meeting in a brother’s house, but the roof has blown off recently.

Amos visits the area congregations and preaches for them at least once or twice each month. He uses a motorcycle which is old and breaking down to get from church to church.

Amos is currently going to school and needs help with school fees. Amos needs $2,000 as soon as possible.

Ephraim Obot

Ephraim Obot is supported by the church of Christ at Gainesville. He preaches the Gospel at congregations like Eka Obong and Utu Edem Akai (Akwa Ibom State). He is married with four children. He was a trader in rubber shoes, but discontinued the work due to a lack of capital to operate his business.

Ephraim Obot converted to Christianity in 1998. None of his family is a member of the churches of Christ. In fact, after conversion, he could not continue his education because of funds and a lack of family support.

Nsikak Idiong

Nsikak is 37 years old. He is married with two children. He has education to be a Chemist, but due to a lack of capital his business failed. He is currently preaching at the church of Christ at Edem Idim Ibesit (Akwa Ibom State). Nsikak is supported by the church of Christ at Gainesville and an individual.

Enoch Ajah Chukwu

Enoch was born on January 1st, 1970 and was spiritually born in August 1985 with the help of his father. In 1990, Enoch entered Nigerian Christian Bible College (NCBC) and graduated in 1992. After graduation, he preached at the church in Nenwe, Aninri East, Enugu State for 1 year and 3 months. While there he held three Gospel Meetings and helped the church to grow.

After Nenwe, Enoch moved to work with the church of Christ in Mballa Isuochi. While there he helped with Gospel meetings, reviving a fallen church, establishing churches in area towns, and many other things during his 7 year ministry there.

Since then, Enoch has moved to work with the Garriki church of Christ outside of Enugu. The Holladay church of Christ in Tennessee contributed some money to bring the building thus far, but the roof is still lacking.

Enoch is supported by an individual.

Reuben Egwu

Reuben is a great worker for the Lord!  Reuben and his wife live in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.  He is heading up our preacher school there in Nigeria.  Since we have become involved with Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver, they have taken the school as an Extension School.  Reuben will serve as the Director of the School.

While Reuben is employed by the school, he does not have enough to support a family.  We are actively looking for individuals and/or churches who would partner with us to support Reuben in this all-important work.

Ebere Ezurike

Ebere Ezurike graduated from the Jos School of Biblical Studies in Jos, Nigeria a few years ago. Since that time, he has been working with a congregation. While working with this one congregation, he has helped to plant 9 congregations in the surrounding villages, brought in leaders for leadership seminars, and preached at several Gospel Meetings. His wife invites the women of those area congregations into her home to teach them how to make communion bread.

Ebere is supported by the Crossroads Church of Christ in Bradford, AR.

Glory and Em Em

Sometimes, benevolence projects are taken on by interested individuals.

While these are not Nigerian preachers, these are two girls that Doris has come into contact with over the years. They have needs for school that cannot be provided elsewhere. Doris has been helping these two young girls and plans on continuing her help until they finish school.

Em Em is planning on going into computer repair. While Nigeria may be a third world country, the computer revolution is alive and well. Computers are well on their way to be as prevalent as in the U.S. Em Em plans on finishing her school in a few years.

Glory is going to school to become a mid-wife. This school will take a few more years to finish.
