We welcome you to the Gainesville church of Christ!

A Church for Your Community

The church of Christ at Gainesville, AR has much to offer both you and your community.  If you are looking for a church home, why not consider us first?

The Lord's Church at Gainesville has been serving the spiritual needs of Greene County for nearly 150 years, making it one of the oldest churches of Christ in the area.  During the last century and a half, many generations have worked to share the love of God with those around them.

However, the Body of Christ at Gainesville has no desire to rest on the deeds of the past.  It is our desire to meet the needs of the present and go forward into the future in a way that will be most helpful to our friends and neighbors and will bring glory to the name of God through Jesus Christ.

All classes and worship are Bible based and discussion is always welcome.  We accept no man-made creeds or councils but draw our teaching and practice from the Bible alone.  We believe this is the only true method for bringing unity to the Body of Christ.

Although we have a rural location, we are within easy driving distance of several towns.  Our members come from such places as Paragould, Oak Grove, Evening Star, Beech Grove, Marmaduke, Hooker, and Lafe.

As you can see, the church of Christ that meets at Gainesville is truly a church for YOUR community.  If you have any questions or need a ride to worship, please call us at (870) 586 0420.  If you would like a visit from out minister or one of our evangelism teams, please let us know.

We want you to visit us at the Gainesville church of Christ.  If you need a ride to church, call:  870.586.0872.

Sometimes, people who want to or do visit feel intimidated by their surroundings, but we want you to feel welcome and comfortable with us.  In order for you to be comfortable, the following is here to make you more comfortable and inform you of what you will experience within the Gainesville church setting.

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME?

Absolutely nothing.  You are welcome to participate. But don't feel obligated to. Just observe if that is your choice.

You may be asked to fill out a Visitor's Card. This simply provides information so the church can write or call to thank you for your visit.

Worship is Simple and Devout:

Visitors are favorably impressed by a quiet service designed to draw worshippers closer to God and provide enduring spiritual strength.

Since our purpose is to be governed in all things by the Bible alone, our worship consists only of those elements which were part of the worship of the early church. We sing and pray, partake of the Lord's Supper, preach God's Word for our instruction and give of means.

Singing:

Our singing, to many visitors, is a very inspirational part of the worship service. One of the unique things about churches of Christ is that the music is "a cappella." Since the New Testament instructs Christians to sing in worship (Ephesians 5:19). We encourage everyone to sing. In the Bible we find no authority for the use of instruments of music in the worship of the church.(1) We are seeking to worship according to the New Testament pattern.

Prayers:

There will be several prayers during the service. And there may be prayers for specific needs and requests.

Lord's Supper:

If you visit on a Sunday morning, the Lord's Supper will be included in the worship proceedings. We observe this memorial every Sunday.

Again, the reason for this is our desire to follow New Testament teaching. The first century church celebrated this observance on the first day of the week.(2)

Preaching:

Our minister will deliver a 20-30 minute sermon that we we think you will find refreshingly Bible-centered.

At the close of the sermon, the minister will "extend an invitation." This is simply an expedient time to invite those who are moved to do so make a commitment or request prayer support. No one is ever singled out for public attention.

If anyone responds for baptism, you will witness the baptism during this service. the baptism will be by immersion (3) for the forgiveness of sins. (4)

Offering:

Also, if you visits on a Sunday morning, containers will be passed to collect the weekly financial offering.(5)

As our quest, you are not expected to make a donation. Feel perfectly comfortable in just passing the collection basket on down the row.

You Will Find a Friendly Spirit:

We believe that friendliness is a natural attitude among people who truly love God. Visitors always received a warm, courteous welcome.
